Munchkins on Mission
Leanne Wimble - Leadership Doxa Deo Bloemfontein
Most days, mornings are quite a rush in the Wimble household...
Especially since we added a new member who needs to be changed, fed,
dressed and strapped into the car seat before heading off to work. And
somewhere in between that, her nappy bag (which by the way, used to be a
stylish handbag..) has to be packed and stocked with an answer to any
possible need.
It was during one of these breakfast-snack-lunchbox-packing sessions
that a light went on for me. Jesus fed five thousand...with five small
barley loaves and two small fish.
I dropped everything and went to read John 6 and in verse 9 I found it: "Here is a boy..."
Here is a boy with a lunchbox his mom put in his backpack. And Jesus
needs it! What a proud mommy I would be if my child came home with a
story like that!
I realised that Jesus loves children, He wants them near Him and
while He's at it, takes them on mission with Him. Our role is to help
our children recognize Jesus and give Him what we have equipped them
with.
Recognizing Jesus
John 1:1 says that Jesus is the Word that became flesh. If we teach
our children God's Word, they will be able to recognize Jesus when they
encounter Him. Speak God's truth over your child and teach him or her
passages from the Bible. God promises us that His Word will never return
void, Isa55:11, but that it will accomplish its purpose. I can't think
of anything greater than God's purposes coming to completion in my
daughter's life.
Equipping Kids
Prov 22:6 says that if we train up a child in the way he should go;
even when he is old he will not depart from it. I feel so inspired to
teach my child to expect Jesus at school, during break on the playground
and even on the sports field. Why not encourage them to share their
lunchboxes, pray for a friend that is sick or give a big love and a hug
to an overworked teacher? Jesus loves my child much more than I do and
that is what qualifies them for His job description.
Be expectant
The next challenge is to believe the amazing stories your little one
will come home with! As parents, we should set the faith thermometer and
aspire to be used by God not only in big things, but in simple every
day living.
So please Mom, pack that lunchbox with a smile and don't forget the Melrose!
